Some other differences introduced for Michael Keaton's Batmobile include projectors capable of creating holographic decoys, rear oil dispensers, and a "Batmissile" mode which ejects exterior parts of the car to allow it to fit through narrow openings. The exhaust on the back has afterburners and the front has two mounted machine guns. Also, the entire chassis is armored, providing Batman with extra protection. Upgrades to the car's weaponry include side-mounted shin breakers, grappling hook launchers, bomb launchers and disc projectile dispensers. ![]() Visually, the new Batmobile was sleek yet dark with an all-black color scheme and a jet turbine engine on the front with similar bat wing fins on the back yet in a much more terrifying, less-cartoonish fashion than the 1960s Batmobile. Burton's 1989 Batman and its sequel, Batman Returns, ushered in a new Batmobile alongside Keaton's titular hero and equally upgraded, and darkened, the vehicle in terms of tone and look. The next live-action Batman came in 1989 with Michael Keaton starring in Tim Burton's Batman, arguably beginning the modern era of superhero movies alongside Richard Donner's Superman series. As evident by this long list of gadgets and gizmos, Adam West's Batmobile from the 1960s was a major upgrade on the attempts of the 1940s, and much more akin to the Batmobile known to many in the modern day. The car also has parachutes attached to the back to allow quick turning, alongside a smoke and nail emitter and a rear-facing camera. Other gadgets include a telephone, radar, and a police scanner useful for Batman's vigilante escapades. In terms of upgrades to weaponry, this Batmobile features many gadgets like the 1966 Batman utility belt, and has everything from lasers to rockets and chain cutters. Firstly, beginning with the visual appearance, the Batmobile featured in West's 1966 TV show and film of the same year is significantly more stylized, featuring a sleek black and red color scheme with bat wing-like fins. ![]() Along with the new man behind the mask came the next iteration of his iconic vehicle, and was the first featuring significant upgrades from its predecessors.
